NZ Compare is proud to announce 2degrees as a finalist in the Making a Difference Award.

NZ Compare’s Annual Awards celebrates excellence and innovation in New Zealand across a range of telecommunications, utilities and finance industries. 2degrees has been selected as a finalist for our Making a Difference Award. This award acknowledges the pioneers and leaders who are making a positive change in communities and inspiring others to follow their example. It is a tough time for Kiwis so it is important that we celebrate those making positive initiative in communities. 

2degrees is New Zealand’s third largest, full service telecommunications proniding, offering broadband and mobile services that cover 98.5% of Kiwis line and work. They also provide fibre network, modern technology platforms and energy services, combined with a stellar customer care team. 

How are they Making a Difference?

2degrees strives for standing against injustices within the telecommunications industry. They have led the way in raising awareness for the 13-month year that the industry tends to use to bill their customers, leading to an unfair number of bill cycles.

In 2021, 2degrees launched Unfairuary, in the name of Fighting for Fair. This campaign raised awareness for the unjust billing system that corporations were using, allowing customers to understand the reality of practices that are more beneficial to businesses rather than consumers. 

People resonated with this message and it led to the relaunch of Unfairuary 2.0, in response to 28-day Prepay cycles – customers were simply paying more than they should! In the midst of a cost of living crisis, New Zealanders – from students to pensioners – are hyper aware of fairness, transparency and value. People are demanding and deserving of honesty and integrity from their mobile and broadband providers. 

Unfairuary strives to educate people of the discrepancies in far too many Prepay offerings and empower them to choose a Prepare plan that doesn’t reduce every month to 28 days. 2degrees are also urging other corporations to follow their lead so that Kiwis can access fair mobile and broadband Prepay services without having to worry about losing money unnecassarily. 

How Can We See 2degrees’ Positive Change?

Unfairuary has established perceptions of good value and of genuine customer-centric values. Kiwis do not take lightly to unfair treatments. This campaign has shaken the landscape for our competition and customers – reminding everyone the importance of honesty, transparency and compassion. 

The campaign didn’t pair directly with a specific offer, rather it simply alerted communities and individuals to the practices of the telecommunications market. Their initiative of providing clarity and fairness has allowed those who choose to make the switch the knowledge to make informed decisions. 

Through an array of positive feedback and community discussion,  it appears that Kiwis appreciate having the knowledge to make informed decisions around their bills!

2degrees are able to understand that the Unfairuary campaign has proven that Kiwis just want to be treated fairly. Honesty and empathy go a long way and it is vital that people from all over the country can make an educated decision on what will work best for them and their household. 

The Positive Change in Our Backyard

It’s no secret that Kiwis are struggling with the cost of living. 28-day billing cycles are simply unfair – given that only one month of the year has that many days! Our campaign has given communities an insight into the telecommunications corporations and empowered them to choose for themselves.
