Running under the streets of Christchurch and stretching across the Canterbury plains to Rolleston, Lincoln, Rangiora, Woodend and Kaiapoi, is a 3,500 kilometre world-class fibre broadband network that is owned by the Christchurch community.

Enable’s commitment to our community and customers began back in 2007 when we were established to address the lack of  local investment by telecommunications companies in fibre broadband.

14 years on and we reach over 200,000 households and businesses across greater Christchurch, with 134,000 customers enjoying all the benefits fibre broadband has to offer. We support Christchurch to realise new possiblities in the digital world through creativity and innovation, focusing on customer centricity and looking at new ways we can continue to support our customers.

As a business we’re always looking for ways we can contribute to our community by providing new opportunities in areas we believe we can add value and believe in digital equity across Christchurch.

We have plans to partner with the Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust (ŌCHT) to deliver their tenants a free maximum speed (1Gbps) wholesale internet service in which ŌCHT will use to develop their tenants’ online skills, educating and creating opportunities for them that wouldn’t be possible without an internet connection.

Come 1 December we will look to upgrade the fibre broadband speeds of more than 110,000 customers for no extra cost as part of our planned speed upgrade. We’re also working away on many other exciting projects of which we’ll look to announce throughout the new year.

We’ve made a huge investment in customer centricity, expanding the Enable commercial team to bring in some new skill-sets and fresh ideas that will allow us to keep working towards our purpose statement  ‘connecting our community with unlimited opportunity’. We recently brought our Network Operations Centre (NOC) to Christchurch inside the Enable office, to be closer to the community and provide them with the level of service they deserve.
